Cesar Fuentes is a food influencer and an avid supporter of NYC street food. A son of immigrant street vendors, Cesar grew up living the hardships related to this difficult, but sometimes rewarding life. He served as director of one of the most popular Latino outdoor markets in New York City, the Red Hook Food Vendors Marketplace. He also oversaw the expansion of one of the most innovative new market initiatives in the city, Vendy Plaza, an offspring of the Street Vendor Project, the street vendor advocacy organization behind the world famous Vendy Awards. Cesar received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the City University of New York (CUNY), and a Master’s Degree in Disability Studies from the CUNY School of Professional Studies.
In 2010, Cesar received the prestigious Place Making Award from NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg in recognition of the Red Hook Food Vendors role in helping improve their community and putting it in the culinary map as one of the city’s top food destinations. In 2014, Brooklyn Magazine names Cesar one of Brooklyn’s Food Influencers for his lifelong dedication and advocacy as a stake holder and trendsetter of the borough’s culinary diversity. Besides his passion for Street Food, Cesar is also a strong advocate for young people with disabilities. He currently assists students with different abilities throughtout the city prepare for vocational and employment opportunities, and the adult life after school.
