Couple Celebrates Marriage with Street Vendors on Food Cart Tour

We’ve known for a while that food carts and trucks have become a popular catering choice for modern weddings.  But until now, nobody has ever celebrated their nuptials by eating on our food cart tour.

Last week, we hosted Sarah and Markus, a German couple who had a destination wedding in New York.  Their first meal as husband and wife (since their actual wedding the night before) was a two-hour, seven-course street food tasting on our Midtown Food Cart Tour.  Since this was an exciting milestone event, some of our food truck partners got in on the celebration.

All of the participants on the tour received a menu that we prepared for the walking “reception.”  Kim Ima from the Treats Truck presented the happy couple with a wedding (cup)cake, fitted with a towering wedding topper.  And the gang from Wafels & Dinges, in addition to creating a special heart-shaped waffle, serenaded the newlyweds with Frank Sinatra’s classic “Love and Marriage.”

We love sharing in special days like these while supporting and sharing the stories of New York City’s vendors.  Perhaps this will become a trend, and we’ll be able to host many more newly married couples.

Wedding planners, are you listening?

If you’re in the mood for something spontaneous, how about getting married Saturday, September 7 at the Vendy Awards?  At the very least, make sure to get your tickets before they sell out!

Turnstile Tours offers weekly tours of food carts and trucks year-round, every Wednesday at 12pm in Manhattan’s Financial District, and every Friday at 2pm in Midtown.  These tours include tastings from six different vendors, and visitors learn about the history of vending in New York City, the rules and regulations affecting vendors, and they even have the opportunity to meet the vendors themselves and ask about what it takes to run one of these small businesses.  At least 5% of all of our ticket sales goes to support the Street Vendor Project.  To join us, visit our tickets and information page.
