Dry Dock No. 1 is a New York City Landmark and the oldest dry dock at the Yard, completed in 1851. This 350-foot basin has been used to repair ships for 173 years, as it is still used today for ship repair by GMD Shipyard. This image shows the yacht Aileen, which was purchased by the Navy in 1898 for use in the Spanish-American War. Today, the dry dock is used to repair commercial ships primarily, including tugboats, barges, ferries, and vessels used in the offshore wind industry. This dry dock is also frequently used to repair ships of the US Coast Guard.
