Welcome to the Brooklyn Navy Yard Fall Open House, part of Open House New York 2024!

Founded in 1801 as a a naval shipyard, the US Navy closed the facility in 1966. Today, the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a 300-acre industrial park owned by the City of New York and managed by the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, whose mission is to use this site to create good-quality jobs for local people across a range of industries. The Yard is home to over 550 businesses and 11,000 jobs. On Saturday, October 19, more than 40 of those businesses scattered across a dozen buildings open their doors to the public for you to explore.

As you explore the Yard, you can play our Scavenger Hunt! Throughout the Yard, you will find 15 markers that highlight different aspects of the Yard’s past, present, and future. You can check in at these markers to learn more, and if you check in at enough of them, you can win a prize!

How to play the Scavenger Hunt on your smartphone

  • Register for the Scavenger Hunt. Enter your team name (you can also play as an individual). You will have to enter this name every time you check in at a marker to track your progress, so remember it, spell it consistently, and make it unique.
  • When you find a marker, scan the QR code to pull up more information about this location. This webpage will also have a button to “check in.”
  • At each check-in, you will have to enter your team name.
  • For most of the check-ins, you will also have to answer a trivia question. You will not be able to complete it without answering the question.
  • Click “Submit” on the check-in form.
  • To check on your progress, visit the Scoreboard page and type your team name into the search bar. This will then display how many check-ins you have completed.
  • Visit the welcome table at Building 77 (view map) and show your score to collect your prize.

  • Scavenger Hunt sheets are available at either Building 77 or the Sands Street Gate (view map).
  • To complete a check-in, you must write down the four-digit code under the QR code printed on each marker, and for some, also answer a trivia question.
  • Bring your completed sheet to Building 77 (view map) to collect your prize.
